The quarry began production of the muscovite-biotite granite in the mid-19th century producing building stone, setts and kerbs, with the best granite reserved for polished monumental work. You can see Kemnay granite in the Queen Victoria Memorial in London, the Forth Railway Bridge near Edinburgh and, more recently, as cladding for the new Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh itself.
